Othman Military Forces and Their Types in Iraq (1534-1848)

Abstract

 During the Ottoman era, which extended from 1534 to 1848, Iraq witnessed the emergence of many military types that served in the country, and their diversity simulated the requirements of the need according to the dictates of the political and administrative reality of the various Iraqi states. Perhaps the most prominent of these types are the regular forces represented by the Janissaries, and the irregular forces represented Haiti, cavalry forces, special forces, local forces, and naval forces, and one of the most prominent duties of these forces was to protect the country’s security internally and externally, and these forces were supervised by the governor of Baghdad and Agha, who shared the duties of the military authority and the implementation of the orders of the Sublime Porte in Istanbul from Preparing the soldiers, issuing military orders, and leading military campaigns.
