Doria Shafik took a path to liberate women in her country and took various methods, including eradicating illiteracy and the right to vote, because the prevailing view at that time was that women were not given the right to vote because the majority of them were illiterate and did not know how to read and write.
She turned to the press to convey her voice, took over the presidency of the magazine (The New Woman), established the first literacy school, translated the Holy Qur'an into English and French, and wrote several collections of poetry.
Her views resonated with society and was the reason for imposing house arrest on her.
