Abstract

The primary motivation behind focusing on the woman as a central literary subject lies in documenting and affirming her awareness of herself — portraying her as a symbol of freedom whose will and consciousness have long been restrained. Woman has often been likened to a boat left anchored at the shore, awaiting the man as the “captain,” never permitted to sail into the waters of experience or to pursue meaning on her own. Therefore, this study approaches the concept of freedom in poetic texts on two interconnected levels:

  1. The thematic level, which explores the conflicting perceptions that women have acquired regarding their own freedom in poetry, even when external traditional forms appear unchanged.

  2. The critical and visionary level, which is based on the aspiration to build a renaissance-minded individual—someone shaped by a set of aesthetic and cultural values that they seek to embrace and embody.
