Abstract

The present study aimed to achieve the following objectives:

  • Measuring the level of the exercise of academic freedom to faculty members in the College of Education - University of Basra.
  • Measuring the level of feeling of alienation career (vocational) to the faculty in the College of Education - University of Basra.
  • Get the relationship between academic freedom and alienation career (vocational) to the faculty in the College of Education - University of Basra, according to the variables of sex, specialization and scientific title.

The study population consisted of all faculty members in the College of Education for the academic year 2011/2012, which numbered (374) has been selected stratified random sample of teaching staff of College of Education numbered (150)  male and female teachers, where a sample rate of 41% of the study population.

To achieve the objectives of the study were used measure of academic freedom, prepared by the researcher. (Hamdan, 2008)

The measure of alienation career (vocational) to faculty members prepared by               (Alcardawi, 2010)

The results of the study showed that the level of the exercise of academic freedom to faculty members in the College of Education / University of Basra and the areas between the scale (67.5% - 23.5%). Any faculty members in the College of Education for not being a high level in the exercise of academic freedom.

The total degree respondents overall on a scale alienation career where circles were calculation questionnaire alienation career (vocational) for faculty high , was high and it reached the arithmetic mean (3.71) and standard deviation (0.60) .This means that the faculty members in the College of Education suffer from alienation and functional in all fields. The study also showed that there is an inverse relationship between academic freedom and professional alienation where the correlation coefficient between the loss of meaning and decision-making (-0.32) any teaching that whenever deprived of his liberty Academy whenever the cause of alienation career.
