Abstract

The present study aims to study the phonetic phenomena as described
in Abi zaid AIansari’s AInawader fiIIuga (Iinguistic rarities).It deaIs with the
phenome-non of aIteration the speech sounds with each other as the aIteration
of some homorganic speech sounds ,that is, the speech sounds that are
articuIated in the same pIace of articuIation as the gIottaI sounds such as the
gIottaI stop (hamza) and the gIottI fricative (Ha ),the aIveoIar fricatives
((Sin,) and (zay,) and (GIm) and ( ya )The aIteration of speech soundsaIso
incIudes the adjacent speech sounds such as (Ha )and (Ha ),(hamza,)and
(ayn ).As for the adjacent sounds,the researcher mentions the aIteration
between (Ta) and (Ta)and ,( Sin )and (Ta ),( waw and (Ta)as weII as the
speech sounds which share a simiIar phonetic feature as the (MIm)and (Nun ).The study aIso deaIs with two phonetic phenomena mainIy assimiIation-a
segment becomes more simiIar to another segment .and dissimiIation –a
segment becomes Iess simiIar to another segment. These are aspects of rapid
speech. The speaker may wish to speak sIowIy and carefuIIy to avoid these
matters .
In the case of two identicaI speech sounds which happen to occur
successiveIy within the same word ,one of them is substituted for one of the
Iiquids (Raa Lam, Mim or Nun ).This study Iooks further at the phenomenon
of Iightning the (hamza ). It can be either deIeted or repIaced by a speech
sound suitabIe for the speech sound that come s befor the (hamza). The
phenomenon of foIIowers ,that is ,in speech a word is foIIowed by another
word whose rhyme is the same as the preceding word .
