Learning and Recalling Strategies and Their Relation with the Students Achievement and Geography Skills at Department of Geography

Abstract

The success of students depends on their activities and learning bye depending on themselves and observing they are learning and this makes a necessity for the college teachers to improve qualitative learning strategies for improving the college students in affording self-responsibility of his learning and achieving the splendid success.

   Besides, the acquisition or achievement proces and skills development is not spontaneous one, but it is a fully considered process, which has its rules and conditions to be positive and effective one.

Therefore this study aimed at knowing:

  1. The degree of learning and recalling strategies of college students.
  2. The correlation between recording strategies and achievement of students at department of geography
  3. The degree of geography skills of college students.
  4. The correlation between learning and recording strategies and geography skills of students at department of geography.

       The simple of the research consist of  200 student (  male & female) from the third  guard of the department of geography College of education of  humanities- University of Diyla - morning classes- for the academic year 2018-2019.The researcher has adapted the scale of the  ( Weinstien,1988 ) for measuring  recalling strategies. The researcher has build scale of the geograpgy skills and after ensuring validity  reliability of the questionnaire and discriminatory force , it has been conducted on the sample of the research.

       The researcher depended on the students achievement of the second guard (the rules of the final test of the academic year (2017-2018).The researcher has building scale of the geograpgy skills.

          After finishing the procedures of conductive the questionnaire, the researcher analyzed the study data and using the suitable, statistical means.

 The results show that:-

  1. The students are the department of geography have learning and recalling strategies.
  2. There is relation of statistical significance between learning and recalling strategy and achievements.
  3. The students are the department of geography have geography skills
  4. There is relation of statistical significance between learning and recalling strategy and geography skills

      The researcher recommended the necessity of using the modern teaching methods and drawing the student’s attention of their learning strategy because the effective teaching aims at learning the students how to learn and how to recall and how to think.

      The researcher suggest a similar study on the students of higher students and using other variables as motivation and thinking.
