Time in the novels and stories of Ilham Abdel Karim
Abstract
The time occupies a special position in the narrative structure, rather it is the backbone on which the axes and elements of the structure are constructed, the importance of time comes through its control over the elements through the successive units that move the narrative process, whether it is sequential, intermittent, retrospective, or introspective, as it is a rotating millstone of the narrative process. The spiral is the engine that connects all parts of life in the narrative process.
The critics and philosophers dealt with time in all its intellectual, life and aesthetic forms such as (Alan Rob Graypa, Todorov, Tomashevsky and Paul Ricoeur). We focused in this research on Paul Ricoeur's theory and the nature of his approach to time differently from the rest of the critics, his success, the time of the story and the time of memory. These two types appeared in the works of the writer clearly indicates its ability to deal with modern narrative methods according to the theories
of modernity.
