Abstract

The research sheds light on one of the opposition parliamentary figures in the monarchy, Mahmoud Subhi Al-Daftari, and the role he played in the Iraqi National Assembly (representatives and notables) from 1925-1945, and he was one of the most prominent Iraqi men who established parliamentary rules in the country, especially since he was not silent Never in all the National Assembly sessions, but his voice was loud in every issue that was raised in the National Assembly meetings, whether it was a political, economic or social issue. Knowing that, the man was not satisfied with raising this or that issue, but rather he was presenting rational opinions regarding it in many cases .

Mahmoud Subhi Al-Daftary was the only one who opposed the amendment of the Basic Law in 1943, in a way that would grant broad powers to the king and give him the right to dismiss the prime minister, despite the fact that Abd al-Ilah, the regent of the throne, was present at the session that witnessed the discussion of the issue.
