Abstract

The Egyptian Church was not just a religious institution only, but it was a source of Egyptian relations with its non-Islamic surroundings from the Christian kingdoms, and Abyssinia was one of those kingdoms that were linked to Egypt through the ecclesiastical dependency, as Egypt had the first credit in transmitting Christianity to Abyssinia through the Copts of Egypt Those who immigrated there with the beginnings of Christianity evangelization and the subsequent connection of the Ethiopian Church with Egypt and its church, a spiritual and temporal bond that lasted a long time.

   With the establishment of the Mamluk state in Egypt (648-923 AH / 1250-1516 AD), the relationship between the Egyptian Church and the Abyssinian Church continued, and began to develop more by virtue of its association with political relations that had a negative and positive impact on the relationship between the two churches, which was characterized by positive and friendly in most cases, as well as reflected The conditions of both the Copts in Egypt and the Muslims (Zailaa) in Abyssinia depend on these relationships.

   The research has been divided into four aspects, preceded by a simple introduction to the history of Christianity in Egypt, and the research deals with the role of the Egyptian Church in the introduction of Christianity to Abyssinia, in addition to dealing with the relations between Egypt and Abyssinia before the Mamluk era and their reflection on the two churches, then comes the core of the research, which is the relationship between the two churches In the Mamluk era, and finally the role of the Egyptian Church in appointing the Archbishop of Abyssinia.
