Optimism Bias of Educational Counselors

Abstract

The current research aims to identify the optimism bias of educational counselors as well as to identify the significance of the difference in the optimism bias according to the gender variable (male - female). In order to achieve the research objectives, the researcher constructed the optimism bias scale based on the model (Weinstein 1980) and the number of the scale paragraphs reached (32) Paragraph, in its final form, distributed equally in two areas: the positive events and the negative events in each field (16) paragraphs, and after making sure of its psychometric properties, the scale was applied to a sample of (300) of school counselors (male-female) who were chosen randomly. Of the six directorates in Baghdad governorate for the academic year 2020/2021, and the following results showed:

  1. That the research sample of educational counselors has optimism bias.
  2. There are no statistically significant differences in the optimism bias between males and females among the mentors.
